The World Royal Heritage Festival 2013

Aiming to promote and to preserve artistic heritage and royal palace's culture, Jakarta Tourism and Culture Office will held The World Royal Heritage Festival 2013 on December 5-8, 2013 at National Monument (Monas), Central Jakarta. This event is also to build friendship among kingdoms from all over the world.

Prince Andrew, The Duke of York, will be coming to Jakarta to attend The World Royal Heritage Festival 2013. Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo (Jokowi) admitted that he verbally asked the British royal to come to the World Royal Heritage Festival. Not only that, he also planned to invite all monarchies around the world. “I was telling him (Prince Andrew) about the upcoming festival. We want to invite royal families to come to the World Royal Heritage Festival on December 5-8. Later, the invitation will be like old days letter, the one that is rolled,” stated Jokowi, Thursday (9/19).

Jokowi really hopes the British royal family would participate in the festival. He even asked special request for them to bring along British royal guards.“They (British royal) will send representatives. I don’t know yet who the representatives would be, but they will send representatives. We also requested for Buckingham Palace’s guards (to participate in the festival),” he uttered.

According to Jokowi, the World Royal Heritage Festival will show  world about Indonesia’s royal and cultural richness, as well as to promote the city of Jakarta to the world. As many as 130 palaces (Keraton) in Indonesia will take part in this festival.

The event itself will be filled with numerous activities from each delegation's participants, such as seminars, workshops, exhibition of sacred heirloom artifacts, culinary festival, traditional dances and royal dress show.

2013 Jakarta International Kite Festival

Various kind of traditional and modern kites will decorate the sky above National Monument (Monas) on Jakarta International Kite Festival (JIKF) 2013 on 30th November to 1st December 2013. Jakarta Tourism and Culture Office and the Le Gong Kite Society hold this festival annually to showcase local and international kites.

The Le Gong Kite Society is a group of kite enthusiasts based in Jakarta. The group was established by Indonesian stage actress Sari Sabda Bhakti Madjid, who is a kite-lover herself, in 1989. Today, the group has more than 100 members from all across the country.

The two-days event consists of kite exhibitions, competitions, and a bazaar. At least 18 countries are scheduled to participate in the international event this year. All participants are free to apply their own interpretations of the general theme onto their kites. The evaluation will be based on their compliance to the general theme, workmanship and creativity.

The Jakarta International Kite Festival 2013 would also include an exhibition, a photo session, and a kite making demonstration.

Supporting Local Farmers in Agri & Agro Festival 2013

The Indonesian agriculture sector is dominated by small family farmers, with cash crop production in particular and fruits, vegetables crops. The main staple food is rice. In 2003, contribute about 15% of the Indonesia Product Domestic Bruto and in 2009 slightly increase to about 16,3%.

According to Indonesia's Central Bureau of Statistics Agricultural Census, the number of farmers has decreased from 31.17 million in 2003 to 26.13 million in 2013. The decrease was due to the farmers professions switched to other sectors, such as trade or industry.

Therefore, to support the local farmers in the easiest possible way, Jakarta Tourism and Culture Office will hold Agri & Agro Festival 2013 at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah on 29th November to 1st December 2013. This event is an original concept to present the sectors of agribusiness and agroindustry in Indonesia, by welcoming people of all ages from different background to equally enjoy the festival.

Agri & Agro Festival 2013 is scheduled to be attended by regencies from all around Indonesia that will introduce their signature local commodities, and also welcome the foreign agricultural and agroindustrial companies based in Indonesia and/or countries of origin that will also introduce their commodities.

Not only that, this event will also have traditional arts and cultural show and culinary adventure from provinces of Indonesia. Music performances by Indonesian artists has also been scheduled to entertain all parties.

Lomba Karya Cipta Tari Betawi 2013

Welcoming end year season, Jakarta Tourism and Culture Office (JTCO) held an activity related to Betawi art and cultural performance.

In order to preserve and develop Betawi dance, JTCO held “Lomba Karya Cipta Tari Betawi 2013”. Registration is open until December 6, 2013. After that, the participants will be joining to the Workshop on December 9-10. Eventually, the finalists will show their work on December 29, 2013 at The Plaza Theatre Jakarta, Taman Ismail Marzuki.

As Jakarta’s population grew by leaps and bounds, new suburbs emerged, absorbing the one-time rural villages or kampungs. The metropolitan capital spread to all directions, first adding the Kebayoran area, then Pondok Indah, in the South, but now growing east, north, further south and west until today, Jakarta has become one almost seamlessly with the adjoining towns of Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi.

Fortunately, town planning has been such that each district is self contained where facilities like hospitals, schools, universities, shopping centers, religious buildings are all available within one neighborhood.

Yet the main problem remains since the thousands of offices in high rise buildings are still centralized so that millions of commuters who travel at peak hours in the morning and in the evening cause daily traffic snarls that are almost impossible to overcome, even with the construction of wide toll roads, overhead roads and traffic tunnels.
